What do food and our values have in common?

Last weekend, I was hungry.
Like every day, you might say 😁.
Well… let me explain the context.
I had been working since the morning, writing, creating, brainstorming with myself, without noticing the time passing. And in the early afternoon, I suddenly felt empty, and I stopped abruptly. I was having trouble thinking, getting my ideas straight, my brain was starting to get confused, my eyes were getting tired.
I stopped dead in my tracks and then I heard a strange noise. I felt something in my body. Something was happening. But what? Oh yes… it was my stomach growling, telling me that I had forgotten to do something important: take a break and eat 😁.
I was in one of those moments of flow where nothing else existed around me and my brain was super happy, buzzing… to the point of forgetting the time. Luckily, my body taught it to send signals to my brain to remind it that without energy, there are no more moments of flow. It’s over. My body was telling it, “You need to regain your strength and energy to continue.”
Eating is something we have to do every day to recharge our energy.
It’s something we do mechanically when we feel hungry (at least in our society where we are lucky enough to be able to eat every day… but that’s another subject…).
We do it instinctively… and for some, it’s even a source of pleasure 😁.
Eating provides us with the energy we need to do the things that are important to us. To keep moving. To simply live.
Why am I telling you this? Because it’s the same with our values.
Our values are extremely important in our lives, and yet we don’t think about them. Our values provide us with the energy we need to move forward, they are our daily compass, they make us feel alive.
They are our internal source of energy.
And yet we don’t take the time to really get to know them, to understand them. They may send us warnings when things aren’t going well in our lives, but we don’t want to listen to them.
These warnings come from our hearts through the emotions we feel in certain situations, or from our bodies when things are not right and we are drained of our internal energy.
Just as your body growls when you are hungry, hear your heart growl when something is no longer OK with your values, listen to your body suffering when you are in a situation that contradicts your values.
Take care of yourself 🙏🏾
